Playing in Copenhagen

Our faithful German-born automobile was only too happy to tear its own motherland apart in one impressive jump from Munich to the northern shore from where, once again, after cuing for a moderately maddening amount of time we departed back to Scandinavia which greeted us with fog thick as Norwegian fish soup. South of Copenhagen I could not see further than 20 meters ahead: the Danes had clearly broken their weather, finally. But this insane trip ended well and we installed ourselves at our apartment hotel: this form of accommodation though completely devoid of the carpeted hotel glamor is becoming my favorite. Priced reasonably, the apartment is spacious as a normal apartment should be, and I do not mind at all trading questionable hotel “comfort” features such as minibar for an equipped kitchen.

The next day saw us in Experimentarium – the Copenhagen’s scientifically oriented playground for children and playful adults. OK, I’m not go as far as saying that this is the first or the only thing you should do in this lovely city – Copenhagen is beautiful and friendly to strangers – but to play is what we wanted this time, and play we did, oh yes, sir. This impressively large museum-slash-lab is packed with activities which are fun whether you care to read the scientific explanation or not, grouped around major subjects like energy” or “human senses”. In addition at this time Experimentarium hosts the Body Worlds exhibition which is nothing short of amazing. So, even with Tuesday’s extended opening times, in the end of the day they had to shoo us out with broomsticks.

Copenhagen is the ultimate bicycling city. I have never been to Beijing and am quite sure that it can also be proud of its commute  culture, but it is in Copenhagen I first saw women in high heels pushing the pedals of a bike like there was nothing to it. Way to go, actually.
