Oh, RLY?

Who would actually think it to be true, but here you go… Somebody in France said to us: oh, Spain… be careful, they go to bed very late! Now I am in my bedroom (well, in a bedroom, at any rate), the hour is well beyond late, and – get this – an outdoors movie theater across the street is blasting its Dolby Surround or whatever it is they have to the immense enjoyment of the enthusiastic crowd. Fernando, our host here, when asked “umm, and how do we sleep, then?” said “oh, well, it is summer” with an air of “why do you need to sleep, anyway?”

The public are cheering and the music is spilling over averagely dramatic, so my guess is the picture is soon over. Let’s hope it was the last show tonight. It is not our first night in Spain, and yes, they go to bed very late, very-very late. Oh, well, who cares, it is summer after all.

Results of another interesting habit is what you see in the image: we are not in a shady beer joint where they wouldn’t bother to stretch the hand in the direction of a waste bin. A respectable tapas bar is actually characterized as highly acclaimed by the large amount of litter in front of the bar. It symbolizes that the institution is in fact being visited and people do eat, drink and pollute. It is an interesting feeling when for the first time one throws an olive pit or a used napkin in front of oneself. I just hope I shall be able to manage my habits upon arrival in other countries, otherwise it threatens to become especially peculiar.
